Some suggestions this morning that England will go in with a 4 man attack of Broad (if fit), Bresnan, Swann and Tredwell, which smacks of showing a bit too much respect to their hosts.

All 4 of the likely bowlers named there can bat, so it won't massively weaken the team's chances to leave out a specialist batter to play the 5th bowler, which could always be welcome in Bangladeshi conditions.

one thing they should have considered is that both Yousuf and Younus don't actually have a history of disciplinary issues ... people like Shoaib Akhtar or Asif or even Afridi have had problems in the past and bans on such people would have been understandable but on people who have been very clean otherwise is quite unfair really... but who knows, as stated in above posts, all that can still change.

Regarding PAK's captaincy, I believe they'll appoint Misbah for the time being and in future perhaps Afridi or Butt will be considered for the role. I still doubt if they'll appoint Razzaq because the PCB doesn't seem to be in his favor most of the time.

Regarding PAK's T20 team I believe they'll go in with the following players:

Nazir, Hafeez, Afridi, Umer, Misbah, Fawad, Kamran, Razzaq, Aamer, Gul, Asif.

With Hafeez and Afridi in the side, Ajmal might miss out from the playing eleven. The other 4 players could be ... Salman, Ajmal, Arafat, ANYBODY (Perhaps a youngster like Hammad or Shahzaib). by the way I'm very keen to know how is Usman Qadir progressing in his young career... saw him in the U-19's and I think soon he'll be a regular in the national team.

Personally I'd be very happy if Salman is selected only for ODI's and Tests... I want him to be away from T20's as much as possible as this format doesn't suite his style and it'll do him no good.

I dont buy this Kahmad. Finally I can commend a body for slapping down on fellas killing team spirit but who would have thought it would have been the PCB.  Well done to them, i've always thought there is no room for these sort of nonsense in sports and it derails a team massively.  Team work beats a talented, divided team hands down anyday of the week!!
 
Through Yousuf punishment maybe harsh but we are only seeing it from the outside.  Zuhair did confirm though that he got in heated fights, these guys are big men, all these things do is nothing but caused team trouble.
 
I'll applaud the PCB for now as the decision is still standing but Clobber is very much spot on, these things can change by next week!!

Its only Shoaib Malik's loss that can be dealt with easily. If he gets a chance the others will also get free. Pcb is playing with the players. The decision must stand now. Afridi cant be captain after this all. Razzaq is the best option as he is the only one who can play in all formats and understands the game very well. He might not have the leading qualities of Afridi but he is also a fighter. He should be given a chance.

Each round (two or three games for the IPL, I understand) has a deadline, before which you can change players & captain.

There may be a limit to how many transfers you can make, I'm not quite sure about this but the answer to the first question is no, but the rounds are only two/three games so you'll be able to make changes every couple of days or so, in theory.

So no, I don't think you can have multiple captains per round.

For what it's worth, here's my IPL team:

I have to comment on this really, I'm shocked to say the least. I feel very very bad for Yousuf, as sledge has said, I too think that he was very professional and tried his best to carry the team in Australia. Younus is a good player, and I think given his services to the PAK team he should have been treated a little softly...
 
Malik and Rana deserve their bans, I like Malik as a player, but surely he was the root cause of many problems in Australia. Regarding Kamran, Umer and Afridi, I think atleast the Akmal brothers will learn a good lesson from this and behave properly from here on in. I like both of them very much and hopefully they'll keep themselves clean in future.
 
A very young PAK team might struggle a bit but hopefully it'll be a discliplined team in the future. It's also heartening to see that the ever so controversial fast bowler Mohammed Asif has learnt from his past mistakes and has come out clean in this episode.
 
Misbah leadingt the side will not be a very good sign add to that Misbah doesn't have a very long cricketing future ahead of him given his age. It should go to Razzaq or Afridi.

Don't think the players will strike. they can't afford it. but given the political affiliations of the PCB - if the government does get changed any time soon which has quite a realistic chance - the new government can revoke the decisions.


I agree with the Afridi thing - he already got his punishment from the ICC - there was no point slapping him with another fine. But , Afridi would not complain about it as Rs 3 million is peanuts for him. I dont think Afridi deserves to be the skipper - it should go to Razzaq in my view.

Malik should be banned for life. I think pcb is overreacting to hide their own weaknesses. They made also big mistakes. Afridi got his punishment from icc for his shameful acts. PCB could have let him go. Younus will surely play county cricket though. But the PCB officials have escaped from all this drama - untouched. They have saved their skins at the cost of the players. The most recent case was a county game between Leic and Essex where the skippers agreed a run chase on the final day of a meaningless end of season game. Off the fearsome bowling of Paul Nixon and Darren Robinson, Cook made 66 off 32 balls and Mark Pettini 114 off 29.

I agree with Sledge's thoughts regarding Bresnan and Tredwell being given batting time. Finn appears to have jumped ahead of Plunkett and Wright for the 3rd seamer's berth, assuming Broad makes it: if not a heftier re-think might be needed to balance the batting a touch.

Certainly from what i have read into it, I didn't get any impression that betting was involved in any way, shape or form.

It looks like the the PCB has decided that the heart of the team is cancerous and that the only way forward is to tear it out, and start again. It's a big decision, a brave one too which will hopefully bring a degree of stability in the longer term.

That said, of course, this is the PCB we are talking about, so no one will be surprised to see all these decisions reversed next week!

It is not the bookmakers. Wasim bari is my uncle - he told me it is not match fixing. Yousuf is the unluckiest of the lot and I feel for him. I am happy for all the other decisions as they got what they deserved. Younus Khan had long been arrogant and selfish and decided to sit out of the AUstralia tour because he did not want Yousuf to be the captain.

Yousuf, on the other hand has fallen prey to the player power and was involved in heated fights with Malik and Afridi on a number of ocassions which led to his downfall. I think this is a big blow specially when Pakistan is due to play six tests in England few months from now.

Malik should have been banned for life instead of Yousuf - he is the one who made groups in the team and showed no respect for any other player. As for Rana, i could care less - he is not an important member of the team.

Has to be said - it s a bitter sweet decision from the PCB. I accept it baring the Yousuf part. It will have long lasting implications on Pakistan cricket. We will possibly have Razzaq or Misbah as the new captain - and for sure the new team will not have any groups - although they might end up losing heavily. I've seen that before in county cricket , someone (JP will know who!) scored a ton off 20-odd balls!  Because every ball was a slow full toss , the powers that be decided that the record for fastest county championship century would not stand.
       What I took to be significant was the promotion in the batting order of Bresnan and Tredwell . That suggested to me that they both will start , come Friday.

 Long have we spoken of indiscipline of Pakistani teams over the years. Players have been heavily fined , suspended and cast aside , never to return to the international fold.  Previous headlines seem insignificant with the latest bombshell from the PCB after the shambolic tour of Australia.
          Gone , seemingly for good , are Younus and Yousuf !  No explanation of their misdemeanors has been forthcoming , but to discard arguably their two finest batsmen of a generation suggests that it was extremely serious.  Add to that 1 year bans for Malik and Rana and 6 month probationary periods for both the Akmals and Afridi and it seems that practically ALL the senior members of the Pakistani squad have been punished.
          The sentences are as tough as any since those handed down for match fixing and rebel tourists to South Africa.  I expect everyone is desparate to discover exactly what the transgressions have been - I can only hope that bookmakers do not make another unwanted appearance in the cricketing pages.

   Just where this leaves Pakistani cricket is unknown and what the squad that travels to the Caribbean will look like is anyone's guess.  If these draconian measures result in a young , passionate Pakistani squad giving their all in international matches , then the early reverses will be quickly forgotten for the greater good of Pakistani cricket.
