Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will clash with Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 41 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, the 23rd of April. Last year’s finalists – SRH – have had a tough season and lost five of their seven matches.

Points Table

The batting has blown hot and cold for the Sunrisers this season and their inconsistency has let them down. They have a combined batting average of 26.4 which places them in the bottom cluster in the competition.

To add to their woes, the bowling, led by skipper Pat Cummins, has also been much below par. Their combined bowling average of 39 is the worst for any team in the season and the economy rate of 10.7 also makes them the most expensive unit in the edition.

The Hardik Pandya-led franchise has bounded back in fine style and registered three wins in a row after a disastrous start to their campaign. They gunned down Chennai Super Kings’ 176 with nine wickets in hand and over four overs to spare at Wankhede on Sunday. With four wins in eight matches and a very healthy Net Run Rate, MI are in with a realistic chance of making the playoffs.

MI and SRH have already played each other once this season. MI came out triumphant, overhauling SRH’s 162/5 with four wickets in hand at Wankhede.

We look at the rivalry between the two franchises, the players to watch out for and the match-ups, the numbers which stand out in the different phases of play and who is likely to come out triumphant in the high-octane encounter

Players To Watch Out For

Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
Suryakumar Yadav was the enforcer for Mumbai Indians in their stunning nine-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. SKY blasted an unbeaten 68 off just 30 deliveries and was involved in an unbroken 114-run stand for the second-wicket with Rohit Sharma. He is the leading scorer for MI this season with an aggregate of 333 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 162.4. Only Nicholas Pooran and Sai Sudharsan have scored more runs than him thus far in the season. SKY has a scoring rate of 175.5 in the middle overs since IPL 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Jasprit Bumrah showcased his class against CSK getting rid of the dangerous Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni in quick succession in the death overs which curtailed the opposition to below 180. Bumrah conceded just 25 runs in his 4 overs. He is one of the greats of the IPL and his bowling average of 22.68 is the third-best for a pacer in the league’s history (min. 50 wickets) after Lasith Malinga and Kagiso Rabada. Bumrah was in exceptional form with the ball last season where he returned with 20 wickets in 13 matches at a strike rate of 15.5 and economy of 6.48!

Abhishek Sharma (SRH)
Abhishek Sharma showcased his destructive genius, smashing a breathtaking 141 off just 55 deliveries against Punjab Kings in Hyderabad. He also looked in ominous touch against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, hammering 40 off 28 deliveries before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. Abhishek was one of the central figures of the batting revolution in IPL 2024 and blasted 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.2! He has a strike rate of 190.4 in the powerplay since 2024.

Pat Cummins (SRH)
Skipper Pat Cummins gave his highest impact performance of the season in SRH’s last encounter against MI, albeit in a losing effort. Cummins bagged the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav, conceding just 26 runs in his 4 overs in an otherwise disappointing bowling effort by his unit. Overall though, Cummins has had a poor outing with the ball and picked just seven wickets in as many innings this season. He has also been expensive, conceding at a rate of 10.2 an over.
