ACC is a Community Amateur Sports Club, is a member of the Devon Cricket Board Club Association and is affiliated to the ECB, Devon Cricket League and the Devon Association of Cricket Officials.
Ashburton Cricket Club was awarded 'Club Mark' in 2011 and was re-accredited in 2014. This is a prestigious ECB award that shows the club is a safe place to train and looks after its younger members.
2016 was a hugely successful year for our club on and off the pitch. Our First XI had a nail-biting season that ultimately saw them promoted back to C Division West on the very last game of the year - an achievement that was by no means a foregone conclusion.
The team effort was led by Will Coon with the ball who recorded the joint second best bowling figures in club history with his 8-13 away at South Brent and Lloyd White with the bat who broke several club records in a superb debut season including most runs (721) and highest individual score (138). With Tom Durman returning and South African all-rounder Tristan Wakefield joining us as our overseas player, skipper Ashley Berry will lead a confident side that can give any in C Division a run for their money.
Our Second XI, led by Chris Yeo, is looking to consolidate their place in B Division West after a fantastic season in 2016 which saw them win twice as many games as they lost, all while competing at their highest ever standard.
Our Sunday XI will continue to be a bridge between colts cricket and men’s cricket and with that in mind we have made the decision to pull out of the South Devon Sunday League in favour of playing more friendlies.
Under the leadership of Marcus West, colts cricket at Ashburton continues to go from strength to strength. Outdoor sessions, taken by qualified coaches, will run from 6pm-7pm on Monday evenings from May to July, and we will be running U14, U12 and U10 teams, with Steve Harvey and Malcolm Cowper
kindly helping Marcus run the teams and Vernon Coon and Ashley Harvey helping to lead the coaching.
Off the pitch four major projects were completed in 2016 - the old pavilion slab was renovated into a very pleasant spectating area (thanks to Steve Harvey and Ashley Harvey), the unused artificial was dug up (thanks to Steve Harvey) and the club has purchased a much needed new mobile net and sightscreens (largely funded by our generous sponsors). We also now have a much improved website. Here’s to an equally successful 2017.
