At 18-2 after 5 overs, Bangladesh were in some trouble, however , Liton Das 41, Mahmudullah 74 and Imrul Kayes 72* batted steadily to get Bangladesh to 249-7 after their allotted 50 overs. Aftab Alam 3-54 was the pick of Afghanistan bowlers.
In reply, it was a brave run chase by Afghanistan which all went down to the last over and needing 8 runs to win.
Earlier, the Afghanistan batsmen Mohammad Shahzad 53, Hashmatullah Shahidi 77, Asghar Afghan 39, Mohammad Nabi 38 and Samiullah Shenwari had made the improbable seem probable. However, it wasn’t to be and Afghanistan came up just 4 runs short of a famous victory, with Mustafizur Rahman the hero for Bangladesh, conceding just 4 runs in the last over.
