England have called-up uncapped all-rounder Sam Curran as a replacement for Joe Root in the upcoming Twenty20 International tri-series that also involves New Zealand and Australia.

Root, who had featured in every game England played against Australia in their ongoing tour was rested for the T20I series as a part of the process to manage his workload.

With Ben Stokes' availability also uncertain due to the court hearing, the selectors have decided to hand an opportunity to Curran, who has a wide range of experience in T20 cricket around the world.

The 19-year-old has played 43 T20 games in which he scored 449 runs and snared 40 wickets as well. Recently, he was part of the Super Smash series in New Zealand where he represented Auckland Aces.

England will play a warm-up game against Prime Minster's XI in Canberra on 2nd February following which they will play Australia and New Zealand twice in the group stage with the final scheduled on 21st February.
