England's best yet to come in the ICC World Twenty20 - Joe Root

England batsman Joe Root stated that the team is yet to play to the best of their abilities in the ongoing 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament in India.
Having won two out of the three games they have played so far in the tournament, England have a straight forward chance for qualifying for the semi-finals if they beat Sri Lanka in their final match.
England started their journey in the tournament with a six-wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies, who were buoyed by a fantastic century from Chris Gayle.
However, in their second game, England chased down a target of 230 runs and then went on to win their third game against Afghanistan after having struggled with the bat at the top of the order.
Though he admitted that England are not performing to their best ability, Root feels that it is important to keep winning games no matter what the margin of victory is.
“We’ve obviously not performed at our best through the whole competition yet, which, in a way, is quite exciting because that is still to come.
“The really pleasing thing for me is we are winning games of cricket, which is really important in this format of the game, so as long as we continue to do that, that is all we can worry about, getting that win tomorrow to give us the best chance of qualifying.”
Root also added that England need to adapt to the conditions in Delhi better and have a clear cut game plan in their must-win contest against Sri Lanka.
“It’s about adapting to conditions a bit better than we did in the previous game.
“We obviously didn’t do that very well - and not having too many preconceived ideas.
“We saw how the pitch played there, it might be slightly different again, so when we get out there it is about making sure that we make those assessments and are very clear on how we approach the 20 overs.”
The 25-year-old further mentioned that if England are able to string together good performances and play their best game, they will be a very tough team to beat in the tournament.
“If we’re being honest we probably haven’t done one part of our game consistently well.
“There have been times when we’ve bowled extremely well and times when we’ve obviously batted extremely well.
“The exciting thing for me is that if that comes together and we can consistently do that, we’ll be a hard team to beat.”
Prior to their contest against Sri Lanka, Root and a few teammates decided to visit the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, which is about a three-hour drive away from Delhi.
Expressing his happiness at having had some time off the busy cricket schedule, Root described the Taj Mahal visit as an enjoyable experience.
“With the schedule being so busy, having the opportunity to do something like that, being only three hours away in a car, it was a no-brainer for me.
“Getting to experience a bit of India and obviously one of the wonders of the world, so it was a really enjoyable day and something I’m really glad I did.”
With 143 runs from three matches and a fifty to boot, Root is currently England’s highest run getter in the ongoing ICC World T20 with an average of 47.66 runs per dismissal.
