Hampshire Considered Kevin Pietersen Move - Giles White

Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White admitted having discussed about the possibility of bringing star ex-England batsman Kevin Pietersen back to the club.
Pietersen, who had represented Hampshire from 2005 to 2010, was signed by Surrey last week, but White insists having thought about the move before the formal announcement.
However, with the strategies and squad already in place for Hampshire’s season ahead, White stated that the plan was eventually abandoned.
"There is an obvious link with Hampshire, having played here before.
"We're a club that would certainly look at it and we discussed it internally, but really we had set ourselves up for the season with a squad of batsmen and some good youngsters we wanted to keep going with.”
While appreciating Pietersen’s contributions over the years, White cited the possible flexibility issues in the squad as the reason behind the club’s decision to forego the move.
With Surrey having an eye on Pietersen, White conceded that it was always going to be the obvious choice for the South African-born batsman considering the latter’s fondness for the club.
"I don't think it was the right fit for us.
“We also knew if Surrey came in for him, they would have always been his preference because of his recent association with them and where he lives."
Having represented England in 104 Tests, Pietersen is eying a comeback to the national side after a two-year hiatus.
