Match Analysis - Ravindra ton eliminates Pakistan and Bangladesh; NZ, India in semis
New Zealand qualified for the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after their win over Bangladesh in the sixth game of the tournament.
The Mitchell Santner-led side beat the opposition by five wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday. Asked to bat, Bangladesh made 236 for nine; in response, the Black Caps chased with 23 balls to spare. As a result of New Zealand's win, India also qualified for the semi-final
Bangladesh had a decent start to their innings as Tanzid Hasan (24:24b, 1x4, 2x6) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (77:110b,9x4) looked good in powerplay and added 48 runs for the opening partnership. But, after that, the poor shot selection of Bangladesh brought their downfall. Skipper Shanto held one end up and hit a vital half-century but hardly got any support.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah gave their wickets as Bangladesh was left reeling at 118 for five. But Jaker Ali (45:55b, 3x4, 1x6) provided support to the skipper as the duo added 45 runs for the fifth wicket. Rishad Hossain (26:25b, 2x4, 1x6) also played a decent hand that took Bangladesh a total of 236 for nine. For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of four for 26.
In the chase, New Zealand were off to the worst possible start with the bat as Will Young bagged a six-ball duck and also Kane Williamson fell for a low score, leaving the Black Caps at 15 for two. But Devon Conway (30:45b, 6x4), along with Rachin Ravindra (112:105b, 12x4, 1x6), brought the team slightly back in the game with their 57-run stand for the third wicket.
However, then it was all about New Zealand as Ravindra, along with Tom Latham (55:76b, 3x4), stitched 129 runs for the fourth wicket to take the game away from Bangladesh. Although both Ravindra and Latham lost their wickets quickly, Glenn Phillips (21 not out:28b 2x4, 1x6) in the end played a crucial hand as New Zealand chased the target with five wickets in hand and booked their berth in the semi-final. With their win, India also qualified while Pakistan and Bangladesh were eliminated.
