ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Match 35: Australia win to knock Scotland out, help England qualify

Australia defeated Scotland in their last league game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by five wickets in the Group B encounter at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium Gros Islet in St Lucia.

Asked to bat, Scotland posted 180 for five, in response Australia chased the target with two balls to spare. Australia’s win means England qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

Scotland didn’t have a kind of start they would’ve wanted as they lost Michael Jones early. But after that George Munsey (35:23b, 2x4, 3x6) and Brandon McMullen (60:34b, 2x4, 6x6) brought their team back in the game with their brilliant partnership. The Munsey-McMullen duo added 89 runs for the second wicket and put Australia under pressure. After that Richie Berrington (42 not out:31b, 1x4, 2x6) made sure that he bats till the very end and takes team to good total. Matthew Cross (18:11b, 1x4, 1x6) supported him well as Scotland posted a total of 180 for five on board. For Australia, Glenn Maxwell bagged two wickets.

Australia didn’t start off well with the bat as they lost David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell early. But after that Travis Head (68:49b, 5x4, 4x6) and Marcus Stoinis (59:29b, 9x4, 2x6) took charge and brought their team back in the chase. The Head-Stoinis stand added 80 runs for fourth wicket before Head perished in 16th over. Stoinis continued his charge on the bowlers but failed to take his team home. Tim David (28 not out:14b, 3x4, 1x6) in the end made sure that he brings out his best with the bat as he played an impactful innings to take his team home.
