ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Preview - Teams, Player Squads, Fixtures Schedule , Venues - All you need to know

The highly anticipated ICC mega event, ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 is commencing on the 2nd June, with the hosts USA facing Canada in the Inaugural match of the tournament. The Final match of the competition will take place on the 29th June.
USA and West Indies are co-hosting the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. USA is hosting the event for the first time since their introduction to the world of cricket.
20 teams will be taking part in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup namely, India, Pakistan, Australia, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United States (hosts), West Indies (hosts), Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda.
The number of teams has increased since the last World Cup. 16 teams had competed in the previous edition of the tournament.
The teams have been divided into four groups of 5 teams each.
Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, United States, Canada
Group B: Australia, England, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
Group C: Afghanistan, New Zealand, West Indies, Papua New Guinea, Uganda
Group D: Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands
A total of 55 matches will be played during the mega event. Each team will play 4 matches during the initial league stages. The top 2 sides from each group will then advance to the Super 8 stages. The 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups of four teams each. These qualified sides will play 3 matches against the other teams in their group. The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Semi Finals and the teams winning the Semis will face each other in the Final match on 29th of June.
4 venues in United States of America are finalized for the mega event namely Central Broward Park, Lauderhill, Florida; Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina; Grand Prairie, Texas and Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York City.
The six venues that have been finalized for the matches in West Indies are Providence Stadium, Guyana; Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados; Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua; Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba; Arnos Vale Ground, Arnos Vale, St. Vincent and Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

Prospects of Each Participating Team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup:
India
India are going with an experienced side with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be playing in the top order. Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shivam Dube have earned their place on the back of their IPL form. All of their players have had enough match practice in the IPL and they should be ready to leave an imprint in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Australia
Australia have many match winners in their team including the likes of Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Josh Inglis and Josh Hazlewood. If one of their stars click in the World Cup, they can go a long way in the competition. They will actually start as favorites for winning the event.

South Africa haven't been in the best of form lately. Except for Heinrich Klaasen, all of the other players in their squad have failed miserably in the Indian Premier League. They will have to bring their A game to the table in order to eye their chances at qualifying for the Playoffs.

Bangladesh have recently lost a T20I series against USA. They are in a terrible form in T20I cricket. Towhid Hridoy is batting like a champion but he getting very less support from Bangladesh senior players on the pitch. Tanzid Hasan is an exciting prospect too and a lot of Bangladesh's hopes depend on this players' performance. Bowling department of Bangladesh is looking solid though.

Afghanistan surprised everyone in the ICC Men's 50 overs World Cup with their performance against top sides. They have good match winners in their sides. The quality in terms of both batting and bowling just keep coming from Afghanistan. They will be led by Rashid Khan in the World Cup, who will eye their first ever Semi Finals spot.

Ireland
Ireland are in spectacular form in T20I cricket currently. They have won all of their matches in the recently concluded Netherlands Tri Series. Lorcan Tucker, Andy Balbirnie, Mark Adair and Craig Young all showed signs of great form in the Tri Series and the series against Pakistan. With the coming back of Joshua Little, Ireland look a very balance unit.

After patchy year and a half since the last T20 World Cup, England are boosted by the return of their Ace pacer Jofra Archer in the squad. Their main players haven't looked in great touch in the IPL and they will have to perform to their potential in order to enter the Semi Finals.

New Zealand managed to tie the 5 match T20I series against Pakistan away from home. They weren't fielding their best side and still were able perform superbly. New Zealand are not just a good batting and bowling unit but they also field very well, an area where they hold advantage against their opposition teams.

Pakistan have been in off colors lately. They haven't been able to dominate their opposition like they did in the last edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan showed signs of form against Ireland but the other players will have to step up in the mega event if Pakistan are to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Sri Lanka have named a very strong squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. They are led by Wanindu Hasaranga, who can change the course of the game with both bat and the ball. He leads the team by example and Sri Lanka are expected to perform well in the upcoming event.

West Indies
West Indies have a strong chance of winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. They have match winners both in their batting as well as bowling department. Nicholas Pooran looked in great touch in the IPL and so did Rovman Powell and Andre Russell. The World Cup is happening at home for West Indies and they will not miss out on any opportunity to dominate the opposition teams.

Nepal have performed well in the last year or so in International cricket. They are still struggling to get Sandeep Lamichchane to play in the World Cup. He has been denied Visa to the US due to the rape allegations on him. Nepal are a competitive side but it will be a surprise if they make it to the Super 8's.

USA have surprised everyone in the cricket fraternity by defeating Bangladesh in a T20I series at home. They have included the International stars Corey Anderson and an experienced T20 player Andries Gous in their squad. The bowling of USA is also looking good and they are expected to perform well in the mega event, especially at US pitches.

Scotland are in an ordinary form currently in T20I cricket. They performed poorly in the recently concluded Netherlands Tri Series. None of their top order batters clicked and their bowling lacked an attacking approach. Scotland are not looking in fine touch and may fail to qualify for the Super 8's.

Papua New Guinea have managed to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the first time since they started playing. It is a matter of great pride for them and they have done so because of the hard work and dedication of their captain Assad Vala and other fine players like Lega Siaka, Chad Soper, Charles Amini and Tony Ura. Papua New Guinea can certainly spring out a surprise or two in the upcoming World Cup matches.

Canada are in superb form in T20I cricket. They have earned their spot in the event on the back of their utmost dedication and team work. Saad Bin Zafar has been leading the team by example and other players like Aaron Johnson and Harsh Thaker have been performing very well as well. Canada are expected to do well.
