England knocked India out of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 with a comprehensive 10-wicket win in the second semi-final at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
After being asked to bat, India posted 168 for six in their 20 overs and in their response England chased down the target in 16 overs to finish on 170 for no loss.
Earlier, India was well served by a 47 run second wicket stand between captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. After that Kohli took charge of the innings with a 61 run fourth wicket stand with Hardik Pandya. This stand helped revive the innings for India. Kohli finished on 50 off 40 balls with four boundaries and a six. Pandya made a brisk 63 off just 33 balls with four boundaries and five sixes. Towards the end Pandya let loose completely as he used the long handle to good effect. India finished on 168 for six in their 20 overs. For England the best bowler was Chris Jordan (3-43).
In their chase, England had no problems whatsoever. Their two openers captain Jos Buttler and Alex Hales completely dismantled India's bowling attack. Buttler took off initially and then Hales took charge of the chase. Hales remained unbeaten on 86 off 47 balls with four boundaries and seven sixes. Buttler too made an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes. In the end England chased down the target in 16 overs to finish on 170 for no loss.
