India v Bangladesh, Round 2-Super 4s (A2 v B2), Asia Cup: Bangladesh edge India out in a nail-biting finish

The last league game of the Asia Cup 2023 took place at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India and Bangladesh were up against each other and it was another exciting game that kept many on their toes. Bangladesh were asked to bat first and they posted 265 for eight. India on the other hand failed to chase the target and were bundled out 259 runs.

Bangladesh didn’t have a great outing with the bat in the first half as they lost wickets in quick succession. Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Anamul Haque and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were back in the hut for just 59 runs. Captain Shakib Hasan (80:85b, 6x4, 3x6) then took the onus to himself and played a magnificent innings. He was well supported by Towhid Hridoy (54:81b, 5x4, 2x6) as the duo added 101 runs for the fifth wicket. Nasum Ahmed (44:45b, 6x4, 1x6) along with Mahedi Hasan (29 n.o.:23b, 3x4) hit some blows in the end and powered Bangladesh to a total of 265 for eight. For India, Shardul Thakur picked three wickets whereas Mohammed Shami bagged two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Prasidh Krishna were amongst the wickets as well.

India just like Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost in form Rohit Sharma for a two-ball duck. Debutant Tilak Varma too perished early as they were left tottering at 17 for two. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul (19:39b, 2x4) added 57 runs for the fourth wicket to bring the innings back on track. But the game tilted again as Bangladesh chipped in with two quick wickets and removed Ishan Kishan as well. Suryakumar Yadav (26:34b, 3x4) along with Ravindra Jadeja tried to provide support to Gill but they too failed as India was tumbling at 170 for six. Shubman Gill (121:133b, 8x4, 5x6) played a lone hand and slammed a magnificent century. He brought his team close to the target but fell in 44th over. Axar Patel (42:34b, 3x4, 2x6) then took the onus to himself and brought India back into the game but was back in the hut in the penultimate over. With 12 runs needed off the last six balls, Bangladesh held their nerves well and won the game by six runs. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of three for 50.
