Match 13 – LSG vs PJKS – Lucknow Super Giants vs Punjab Kings

Match Odds: LSG (1.80) vs PK (2.00)

Venue : Bharat Rata cricket Stadium, Lucknow

Pitch Report:

The pitches here can vary depending on the soil, the red soil pitches normally have consistent pace and bounce but the black soil ones can be slow and low, and then scoring becomes tough. In 2023 here the average 1st innings score was only 152, but the pitch played much better last year and that average shot up to 182 (tournament average was 183)

Probable XII’s:

LSG: M.Marsh, Markram, Pooran, Pant ©, Miller, Badoni, Samad, Thakur, Bishnoi, P Yadav, Khan, Rathi

PK: Arya, P. Singh, Iyer ©, Omarzai, Maxwell, Stoinis, S. Singh, Shedge, Jansen, A. Singh, Chahal, Vyshak

Batting Stats T20

Early woes for Punjab:

Prabhsimran is still pretty inconsistent (6 single figure scores in IPl 2023, 4 last year) and failed again in his 1st outing this season. Arya was aggressive early, but had plenty of fortune and was dropped prior to Prabhsimran getting out. Opening partnerships were an issue last year (8/14 under 20)  and they’ve now got a rookie opener so we think Fall of 1st Punjab wicket under 25.5 (Skybet, 1.91) offers some value. LSG have took early wickets in both games this season also, so the pressure will be on from ball 1.

More Powerplay chaos:

Teams are going hard in the powerplay this season, the average is 61 so far this season (56.8 last season). LSG are a team who’ve embraced that, with scores of 74 and 73 so far. PK conceded 61 in their first game so Lucknow Super Giants 6 overs total runs over 53.5 (Betvictor, 1.85) feels a bit light. 9/14 powerplays here last season went over that line, and the intent of batsman has increased again this season

Wicket Takers T20

No massive overs at Lucknow:

Despite the increased intent of late, a feature of the games Lucknow hosted last season was their were no huge overs that you might get at say Hyderabad (3 games with 23 or more scored in an over) or Mumbai (4 games with 24 or more scored in an over). The highest over across the season in 7 games at Lucknow was 21, so Highest total runs in a single over, under 22.5 (William Hill, 1.8) feels a little bit of an excessive line.

Returning hero to shine:

Marcus Stoinis returns to Lucknow as a Punjab player, so he’ll know the conditions well and has his fair share of success at this ground. He has won top batsman 4 times from 14 games here, so we think he’s good value to be Punjab Kings top batsman (Bet365, 9.50). He batted 6 game 1 for PK, but their order is fluid and they’re going to be very aggressive so he could be in early enough even if he’s batting in the middle order.
