Jonathan Trott, the former England batter, has agreed to extend his contract as the head coach of Afghanistan following their impressive World Cup journey in India.

During the 50-overs World Cup, Afghanistan secured a commendable sixth position among 10 teams. They achieved notable victories over past champions England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, and came close to defeating the eventual champions, Australia.

The 42-year-old coach, who has prolonged his tenure until the end of the year, previously led Afghanistan to success in the T20 series against Pakistan and a one-day series triumph against Bangladesh.

"The decision to extend his contract follows his highly fruitful 18-month term, during which he played a pivotal role in the team’s advancements and growth," stated the Afghanistan Cricket Board in a release on Monday.

"Mr. Jonathan Trott expressed his delight in extending his tenure and conveyed his eagerness to further bond with the squad and elevate their performances following the recent Cricket World Cup 2023."

Presently engaged in a T20 series against the UAE, Afghanistan will soon participate in three 20-overs matches in India later this month.
