Lucknow Super Giants are off the mark in IPL 2025 as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Asked to bat, Hyderabad posted a total of 190 for nine, which Lucknow chased with around four overs to spare.

Hyderabad didn't have the kind of start they would've hoped for, as Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the powerplay. With the team tottering at 15 for two, Travis Head (47:28b, 5x4, 3x6) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (32:28b, 2x4) steadied the ship.

The Head-Reddy duo added 61 runs for the third wicket to bring their team back into the game. But Lucknow bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. Heinrich Klaasen (26:17b, 2x4, 1x6) and Aniket Verma (36:13b, 5x6) played a decent hand as well.  Skipper Pat Cummins (18:4b, 3x6) hit some blows in the end as Sunrisers Hyderabad managed 190 for nine. For Lucknow, Shardul Thakur picked four wickets.

Aiden Markram was the first wicket to fall for Lucknow in the chase. But it came as a blessing in disguise for them as Nicholas Pooran (70:26b, 6x4, 6x6) played a blinder while batting at three. Opening batter Mitchell Marsh (52:31b, 7x4, 2x6) supported him well as the duo added 116 runs for the second wicket.

Ayush Badoni and Rishabh Pant failed to make the mark. But Abdul Samad (22 not out:8b, 2x4, 2x6) ensured that he took his team home as Lucknow registered their first win of the season.
