Australia v South Africa, 10th Match, ICC Cricket World Cup: Quinton de Kock condemns Australia to their biggest ever defeat in World Cup history

South Africa marked their second win of the ICC World Cup 2023 as they trounced Australia by 134 runs. The Proteas thumped the five-time champion at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow.

South Africa were asked to bat first and they posted 311 for seven. They were exceptional with the ball as well as they bundled out the opposition for 117 runs to win the game by a massive margin of 134 runs.

South Africa was off the flying start as Quinton de Kock (109: 106b, 8x4, 5x6) and Temba Bavuma (35:55b, 2x4) added 108 runs for the opening stand. Rassie van der Dussen (26:30b, 2x4) tried to carry on the momentum but perished after the start. Aiden Markram (56:44b, 7x4, 1x6) and De Kock had a decent 39-run partnership before Heinrich Klaasen (29:27b, 3x4) chipped in as well. A vital cameo from David Miller (17:13b, 1x4, 1x6) and Marco Jansen (26:22b, 3x4, 1x6) powered South Africa to a total of 311 for seven. For Australia, Glenn Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of two for 34.

Australia then had a torrid outing with the bat as they couldn’t get going at all. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh lost their wickets early. Steve Smith (19:16b, 4x4) looked good but he too was back early. Soon Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis were out as Australia were left tumbling at 70 for six. Marnus Labuschagne (47:74b, 3x4) and Mitchell Starc (27:51b, 3x4) then tried to bail the team out of trouble and added a 69 partnership for the seventh wicket. But they too perished as South African bowlers were all over the batters. They bundled out Australia for 177 runs and completed their second consecutive win of the tournament. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged three wickets.
