Cricket World Player of the Week - Wanindu Hasaranga

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga claimed career-best 6/24 to help Sri Lanka get off their ICC World Cup Qualifier campaign to a winning start.
Courtesy of Hasaranga's 6-fer, Sri Lanka brushed aside the United Arab Emirates by a massive margin of 175 runs and moved one step closer to qualification for the 2023 ODI WC.
Batting first, Sri Lanka got off to a brilliant start with each of their top four batters Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama hitting half-centuries.
Charith Asalanka then amped up the scoring rate in the death overs with a 23-ball 48. He got the support of Hasaranga who himself raced to 23 not out off just 12 balls.
As a result, Sri Lanka were successful in posting a mammoth total of 355-6 from their 50 overs. If that was not enough, Hasaranga bamboozled the United Arab Emirates batters to kill the chase quite early.
The talented spinner accounted for three of the UAE’s top five to break the back of their batting line-up. UAE were bowled out for 180 in 39 overs, all thanks to Hasaranga's spell. The bowler also reached the milestone of 50 ODI wickets in this match.
"I'm really happy. Took my 50th wicket today and this five-for makes me really happy. When we were batting, the wicket was really good. After that, the ball was gripping and that's the benefit we had. I always try to bowl wicket-to-wicket. On these wickets, if you do that, you have a 50-50 chance of taking wickets. Our batters batted really well. 355 was a brilliant score. Kusal played very well and so did Sadeera. Dimuth and Pathum started really well. End of the innings, myself and Charith, we ended up with a good score," Hasaranga said after winning the Player of the Match award.
