Cricket World Player of the Week - Yashasvi Jaiswal

21-year-old opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal became the 306th Test cricketer for India after making his international debut against West Indies and had an impact right away.
Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a magnificent 171 runs off 387 balls in the India vs West Indies 1st Test. Coming off a super successful IPL 2023, he showed his versatility by sticking to his defence when it became tough to score freely on a very slow pitch in Dominica.
The stylish batter had a sensational 229-run opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma (103) to help India take control of the match. The 21-year-old smashed several other batting records in his maiden Test innings.
Jaiswal is now the 17th Indian batter to hit a century on Test debut. Yashasvi and Rohit's 229-run partnership for the opening wicket made them the first Indian opening duo to take a first innings lead without losing a wicket.
Yashasvi and Rohit's 229-run opening partnership also surpassed Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan's 44-year-old record of 213 for the first wicket in a Test outside Asia.
Yashasvi also became only the third Indian batter after Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma to register a 150+ score on Test debut.
Hard work pays off!
