CWC23 Match 11: New Zealand sends out a strong message with 8 wicket win over Bangladesh














New Zealand continued their dream run in the ICC Men’a Cricket World Cup 2023 as they thumped Bangladesh to win their third consecutive game of the tournament. The match took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and it was utterly dominated by New Zealand.

The Black Caps won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat first. They restricted the opposition to 245 for nine and then chased the target with eight wickets in hand.
Bangladesh had a torrid start to their innings as they lost Litton Das on the first ball of the game. And then also went on to lose Tanzid Hasan (16:17b, 4x4) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (7:8b, 1x4). Mehidy Hasan Miraz (30:46b, 4x4) tried to keep the run rate in check but perished after the start. The senior duo of captain Shakib Al Hasan (40:51b, 3x4, 2x6) and Mushfiqur Rahim (66:75b, 6x4, 2x6) added 96 runs for the fifth wicket that brought Bangladesh back in the game. Mahmudullah (41 not out:49b, 2x4, 2x6) in the end struck some lusty blows and powered Bangladesh to a total of 245 for nine. For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson picked three wickets whereas Trent Boult and Matt Henry also bagged two wickets each.
New Zealand lost in form Rachin Ravindra (9:13b, 2x4) early. But after that, Devon Conway (45:59b, 3x4) and Kane Williamson (78 retd hurt: 107b, 8x4, 1x6) steadied the innings and added 80 runs for the second wicket. Once the opener was back, Daryl Mitchell (89 not out:67b, 6x4, 4x6) stole the show and along with Williamson took his team home. Glenn Phillips (16not out: 11b, 1x4, 1x6) chipped up in the end and chased the target in 42.5 overs with eight wickets in hand.
