Eng v India 3rd ODI: Pant, Pandya star as India win ODI series in style

India won the three-match ODI series by a margin of 2-1 thanks to a fine five-wicket win over host England in the final match at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday night.

Earlier, England after being asked to bat posted 259 in 45.5 overs and in response India chased down the target in 42.1 overs to finish on 261 for five.

England were reduced to 12 for two and then there was a revival. Jason Roy (41) and Ben Stokes (27) added 54 runs for the third wicket. Then there was another partnership between captain Jos Buttler (60: 80b, 3x4, 2x6) and Moeen Ali (34) for the fifth wicket worth 75 runs. There was another stand worth 49 runs for the sixth wicket between Buttler and Liam Livingstone. Towards the end, David Willey added 48 runs for eighth wicket. England was bowled out for 259 in 45.5 overs. For India the best bowlers were Hardik Pandya (4-24), Yuzvendra Chahal (3-60) and Mohammed Siraj (2-66).

In their response, India was reduced to 38 for three. Then Rishabh Pant added 34 runs for the fourth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Thereafter, Pant added 133 runs for the fifth wicket with Pandya. Pant finished unbeaten on 125 off 113 balls with 16 boundaries and two sixes. Pandya fell for 71 off 55 balls with 10 boundaries. Then Pant added 56 runs for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. In the end India finished on 261 for five in 42.1 overs. For England the top wicket-taker was Reece Topley (3-35).

India won the ODI series 2-1, only the third time they have a series on English soil since 1974. Pant was named Player of the Match, while Pandya was named Player of the series.
