Match Analysis

Opting to bat, Afghanistan got all out for 273, in response, Australia was 109 for one before rain played spoilsport.

Afghanistan lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a five-ball duck, but Ibrahim Zadran (22:28b, 2x4) and Sediqullah Atal (85:95b, 6x4, 3x6) led the rescue charge and brought the team back in the game with their 67-run stand.

Atal slammed his maiden half-century in the ICC events but didn't get much support. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (20:49b, 1x4) had a start but couldn't convert it as Australia kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals.

With the team under pressure, Azmatullah Omarzai (67:63b, 1x4, 5x6) hit a valiant half-century that powered Afghanistan to a total of 273. For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis picked three wickets.

Australia in the chase was off to a flying start with Matthew Short (20:15b, 3x4, 1x6) and Travis Head (59 not out:40b, 9x4, 1x6) going great guns at the top. The duo added 44 runs inside five overs before Steve Smith (19 not out:22b, 2x4) started his innings on a high.

The rain then didn't let the match continue, and as a result, Australia advanced into the semi-final. Afghanistan's fate, on the other hand, will depend on how England performs against South Africa in Saturday's final Group B game.
