West Indies were off to a blazing start with the bat as Brandon King (23 retd hurt:13b, 3x4, 1x6) and Johnson Charles (38:34b, 4x4, 1x6) added 40 runs before the former walked back injured. Nicholas Pooran (36:32b, 4x4, 1x6) walked in at three and played a blistering knock. Skipper Rovman Powell (36:17b, 5x6) supported him as the pair added 43 runs for the third wicket. England pulled things slightly back as they picked quick wickets but Sherfane Rutherford (28 not out:15b, 1x4, 2x6) in the end made sure they didn’t let England take the momentum. Rutherford played a cameo and powered West Indies to a total of 180 for four.

England had a brutal start to their innings as Jos Buttler (25:22b, 2x4) and Phil Salt (87 not out:47b, 7x4, 5x6) batted aggressively at the top and added 67 runs for the opening stand. Moeen Ali, who came at three, couldn’t score big as he fell early. But it was Jonny Bairstow (48 not out:26v, 5x4, 2x6), who supported Salt well. The Salt-Bairstow duo added an unbeaten 97 runs for the third wicket and took England home with eight wickets in hand.
