England's ongoing campaign in the Ashes series against Australia has suffered a blow as Middlesex fast bowler Steven Finn will head back home following a knee injury.

Finn, who has added as a cover for all-rounder Ben Stokes sustained the blow during a practice session last week and was forced to miss the warm-up game against Western Australia XI in Perth.

However, after undergoing subsequent scans, it was decided that Finn will need an immediate surgery and will return back to the United Kingdom.

The news was confirmed by a statement released by England and Cricket Board which also released that a replacement will be named in due course.

“...(Finn) will now return to the UK in the 48 hours where he will meet a knee specialist to ascertain whether he will have an operation,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, England are also sweating on the fitness of all-rounder Moeen Ali, who picked up a side strain but he is expected to available for their third warm-up game prior to the first Test against Australia.

“Mo Ali ... more precautionary now, we will just leave him out of this one and make sure he’s right,” England coach Trevor Bayliss told reporters in Adelaide.

The first Test of the series will kick-off in Brisbane on 23rd November.
