Shropshire D40 in Association with Cobra Cricket

After a long winter of preparation, our first competitive game of the season was finally upon us as we entertained Cheshire at Alscott CC – in temperatures that resembled mid-winter, hovering around the eight degrees mark!

We were able to field a strong team, and after captain Shaun Rigby had won the toss we asked Cheshire to bat. After a reasonable start, our visitors collapsed from 27-1 to 60 all out with only England LD captain Chris Edwards (16 not out) making double figures.

An excellent bowling display saw Nomyalai Tarakhil (2-0) and Eric Heath (3-15) as the leading wicket takers with Zahid Hussain, Callum Rigby and James Wojda each taking a wicket apiece.

After a patient start, our openers Kev Baker (27 not out) and James Wojda (29 not out) saw us home to our victory target without any alarms in the 17th over to record maximum points.

Thank you to Alscott Cricket Club for their hospitality and the use of their facilities. Our next game is away to Lancashire on 20th May as we look to continue our quest to qualify for the national semi-finals.
