TATA IPL 2024 Match 70: RR vs KKR - Rajasthan finish third post washout in Guwahati

In a dramatic turn of events, the final IPL league match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals was abandoned due to persistent rain at Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati.
Both teams and fans experienced a rollercoaster of emotions as the possibility of play flickered on and off throughout the evening.
Despite hopes for a five-over game at 10:56 pm (local Indian time), the rain refused to relent. Ground staff, players, and fans waited eagerly, but their efforts were in vain despite there being a chance to start a seven over game after the toss finally happened around 10.40 pm India time. It was meant to be a seven over affair game.
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, after winning the toss and opting to bowl, saw his team’s preparation disrupted once again. For KKR, this marks the second consecutive match abandonment, posing challenges ahead of Qualifier 1, especially in gauging the impact of Phil Salt’s absence.
The official word on refunds provided some consolation: fans would get their money back if no ball was bowled. The persistent rain left the players and spectators with glum faces, and ultimately, the match was called off without a single ball being bowled.
Rajasthan will now play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Eliminator, while Kolkata take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. Both these games will take place in Ahmedabad.
