Bourne CC - Groundcare Diary – Week ending May 31st 2020

Whilst we are in ‘lockdown’ we are following the Bourne CC Groundcare team (Clive Brown and Ian Greenfield) through the season as their ground maintenance programme progresses throughout the Spring and Summer in readiness for a Return to Cricket.
We caught up with them this week......
Maintenance Work carried out on the Abbey Lawn week ending 31 / 5 / 20
Monday - Verticut square, Cylinder cut square. Set sprinkler system in operation over top half of square.
Scarified grass net wicket. Brushed and cut down to 5mm at right angles, Rolled for half an hour using medium 1 ton weight. Brushed up grass.
Wednesday - More watering of square, Outfield in a very dry state, grass colour - straw, this condition is usually associated with late August / September,
Rolled grass net wicket for the weekend for twenty minutes and brushed up. [looking quite alright]
Friday - Brushed and cut grass net wicket in two directions [at right angles] 4mm. Rolled for ten minutes [1 ton] Kept water system operating
Saturday - Brushed and cut grass net to match length 3mm, light rolled using mower weight for 1/4 hour - Marked up and admired [first use at 10am] Club members, applying social distancing, of course , having first use of the grass net - good carry and consistent bounce witnessed off the surface.
We are reasonably well satisfied with the way it played not forgetting that this was not a new ball that was used.
