Match Summary
South Africa vs Bangladesh, ICC Cricket World Cup
South Africa 382/5 (50 ov)
Bangladesh 233/10 (46.4 ov)
South Africa won by 149 runs.
Bangladesh asserted their authority early on in the innings as they removed Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen for 36 runs. But after that, it was all about Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram (60:69b, 7x4). The duo added 131 runs for the third wicket and once the stand-in skipper was back in the hut, it was time for real carnage. De Kock (174:140b, 15x4, 7x6) and Heinrich Klaasen (90:49b, 2x4, 8x6) unleashed themselves and took bowlers to cleaners. They added 142 runs for the fourth wicket. David Miller (34:15b, 1x4, 4x6) chipped in as well with a brutal cameo at the end that powered South Africa to a total of 382 for five. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud picked two wickets.
Bangladesh was off to a torrid start as no top and middle-order batter could get going. Litton Das (22:44b, 3x4, 1x6) got the start but perished as the team was left tottering at 58 for five. Mahmudullah (111:111b, 11x4, 4x6) then batted with the tailenders and it was a one man show from him. He smashed a staggering century and brought his side close to target. But South Africa bowlers were too good as they already had done the damage. The Proteas won the game by 149 runs to register their fourth win of the tournament. Every bowler picked a wicket for them and helped the team to win.
