Cricket World Player of the Week - Harmanpreet Kaur

The WPL needed somebody of Harmanpreet Kaur's (65 off just 30 deliveries) stature and pedigree to rise to the occasion and make the first-ever encounter of the Women's Premier League a memorable one.
A decade and a half ago when the first match of the men's Indian Premier League was played, it needed a sensational knock from Brendon McCullum to give the competition a fillip and make headlines all around the globe.
Harmanpreet Kaur's knock of 65 off just 30 deliveries in the curtain raiser the Women's Premier League 2023 may not really be Brendon Mccullum's 73-ball 158 not out but it was explosive enough to send ripples all across the cricketing sphere.
The Mumbai Indians captain smashed 14 boundaries, going at a strike rate of 216.67, and played an instrumental role in taking Mumbai Indians to 207 -- breaching the impressive landmark of 200 runs in the very first innings of the WPL, which may tell something to the organisers who brought the boundary cushions in for this match.
Beth Mooney's Gujarat Giants did not stand a chance against a target of 208 and fell like ninepins, getting bowled out for 64 from just 15.1 overs and conceding the match by a massive margin of 143 runs.
Harmanpreet Kaur has hit a purple patch over the last couple of years and is making the most of it. The WPL needed somebody of her stature and pedigree to rise to the occasion and make the first-ever encounter of the Women's Premier League a memorable one.
Harman got the support of Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr as all of them played explosive knocks. Matthews was dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner on 47 off 31 deliveries but Kerr remained unbeaten right till the end with 45 off 24 deliveries and made sure that Harmanpreet's effort did not go in vain.
