Cricket World Player of the Week - Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has made it a habit of bailing India out of tricky situations and his cameo in the last innings of the 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh was no different.
Most would have expected Ravichandran Ashwin to zoom past the 450-wicket mark in Test cricket in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh given that the pitches in the nation aid spin bowling.
Despite enough assistance from the surfaces, albeit the turn on offer was quite slow, Ashwin was far from his best with the ball and could manage only seven wickets in the series -- quite decent by general standards but not by the lofty precedent set by Ashwin himself.
Ravichandran Ashwin is often not given enough credit for his batting and there seems to be some scepticism in placing him alongside the likes of Jason Holder, Ben Stokes and Ravindran Jadeja in the list of best all-rounders in Test cricket.
However, the crafty off spinner has shown time and again that he can be more than handy with the bat in hand as well. His five Test centuries and a batting average of 27.41 in red-ball cricket is a testament to that.
The all-rounder was at it again with a match winning 62-ball 42* in the last innings of the Bangladesh vs India, 2nd Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka as India chased down the tricky 145-run target to eke out a narrow win by 3 wickets.
Ashwin received the Player of the Match award for his six wickets and invaluable 54 runs in the match, and will now gear up for the much anticipated four-match Test series against Australia in February.
