Lucknow used to be a low scoring venue, but they’ve cleaned up their act since the start of 2024. Last season scores here were on the tournament average, and this season we’ve had 1^st innings scores of 171, 203, 180 and 168 so it’s been steady. Spin has still been a big factor here (Spinner has been top bowler in 4/8 innings) but top order bats have been able to produce good strokeplay and rack up decent scores, which was barely possible back in 2023.

All-round Aiden under the radar

Plenty of reasons to like Aiden Markram over 25.5 player performance points (1.83, Bet365). He’s topped this line 6/8 this season. With the bat alone he’s topped this line 5 times in 8 games, 3 from 4 at home. He’s a very safe pair of hands in the field, with 6 catches already this competition. The cherry on the top is he’s back bowling a handful of overs, with wickets in the last 2 games. DC have Porel and Axar as left handed top order batsman, so he matches up well against them. He can beat this line a variety of ways, and we feel it should be a good bit higher so it rates a good bet.

Aiden might get runs, but it’s rarely fast

Even with him in good form this season, Markram rarely scores at a rapid rate. A bet on Aiden Markram batters strike rate under 155.5 (1.83, Unibet) would have reaped rewards 5 games out of 8 this season, and 39 times in his 50 IPL games. A lot of those IPL games he was down in the middle order, so he does have the powerplay to take advantage of, but even opening in all T20 cricket unders has copped 34/47. He’s more of a classical stroke maker, Marsh is the main who’ll be trying to get LSG off to a flier then Pooran comes in so they’re often little pressure on Markram to play the big shots. He also doesn’t have a history of kicking on to massive scores, so he’s unlikely to be there at the death smashing it out of the park. We feel this line is too high for a player with his skillset/role.

Mayank the marvellous?

Mayank Yadav is back in the squad for LSG, and he’s a very exciting player.  He’s too important to risk when not full fit, so we can assume if he plays he’s 100% fit and ready to go. He made his international debut after just 4 IPL games, and looked the part in those matches also. He hit a max speed of 156.7 kph in his 2^nd IPL game, and teams just couldn’t cope with him. He became the 1^st player ever to scoop MOTM in his 1^st two IPL games, so Mayank Yadav man of the match (21.00, Bet365) looks over-priced for an x-factor player like him.

Porel packs a punch

Abhishek Porel has one job for DC, and that’s to get the scoreboard moving. The phrase “he’s here for a good time, not a long time” fits well with his batting role here. His overall IPL strike rate is 150.84, 147.45 this season. It’s not a slow burn and catch up later on either, he’s full throttle from the get go and he’s actually slowing down as he goes. Going into this season his strike rate off his 1^st 10 balls was 144, this season it’s 172 and it increases to 200 for the 3 games he’s opened. Nair is a more traditional player, now he’s got his chance at the top of the order his role will be to bat deep, make the big contributions. With all that in mind, Porel race to ten (2.2, Bet365) looks out of sync with what their roles are in the team
