Tearaway bowler Gus Atkinson has been having a wonderful summer and is likely to reap the rewards with an England call-up before the ODI World Cup.

Atkinson has been the best bowler for Oval Invincibles in the ongoing Men's Hundred and has picked up 9 wickets at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 6.55. He has taken the Invincibles to the top spot in The Hundred Men's 2023 with 3 wins and one loss from 5 matches.

Atkinson claimed 13 wickets at 29.15 for Surrey as the team reached the semi-finals of the T20 Blast. In his first three matches of the Hundred 2023, he had taken combined figures of 6 for 72 in 54 balls. With figures of 3/24 in his most recent fixture against Northern Superchargers, he has now taken his wickets tally to 9.

England are likely to be without their express bowlers Jofra Archer (elbow) and Olly Stone (hamstring) for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled from August 30 to September 5, with Atkinson expected to get a go.

England will be part of seven ODIs in September - four against New Zealand, three against Ireland - before leaving for their official World Cup warm-up fixtures in India. This gives them ample time to try out Atkinson should Archer not be fit enough to last through the showpiece event.
