Cricket World Player of the Week - Mark Wood

England speedster Mark Wood claimed the first 5-wicket haul of IPL 2023 and his maiden fifer in the competition as he returned with figures of 5/14 in Lucknow Super Giants' opening encounter.
Despite having made his IPL debut back in 2018 for Chennai Super Kings, England quick Mark Wood remains quite inexperienced in the Indian T20 League. However, being one of the premier pacers in world cricket, he has hit the ground running for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023.
Wood has been the best bowler for Lucknow Super Giants and has picked up 8 wickets while bowling at an average of 7 and an economy rate of 7.
The pacer has taken Lucknow Super Giants to the 3rd spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 points table with one win and one loss. He performed quite well in LSG's defeat against CSK the other night but did not get enough support from his fellow bowlers apart from Ravi Bishnoi.
Mark Wood is among the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has already shown in the first couple of matches that speed in the air can rattle batters even if they are not playing on the quickest of pitches.
Noticeably, Wood leaves nothing in the tank and gives his all on the field, be it for England or in franchise cricket. If the pacer can keep his fitness intact, which is easier said than done, he will be a real asset for LSG and the team can look to build their attack around him.
With 8 scalps, Wood is currently the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023.
This is a @MAWood33 appreciation post. Literally. ??#LSGvDC | #IPL2023 | #LucknowSuperGiants | #LSG | #GazabAndaz pic.twitter.com/e0qAjkxMJP
