Cricket World Player of the Week - Quinton de Kock

It is almost unbelievable that South Africa's Quinton de Kock is going to retire from ODI cricket after the ongoing ODI World Cup when he is at the peak of his powers and is currently the highest run-scorer in the competition.
De Kock lit up the World Cup with a sensational knock of 174 off 140 balls in South Africa's match against Bangladesh in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium. The opener has played for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several years and will thus have good memories of the iconic venue.
With his massive hundred, the batter smashed a 16-year-old World Cup record, hitting the highest score for a designated wicketkeeper in ODI World Cups, surpassing Australia's Adam Gilchrist's 149 in the 2007 ODI World Cup final against Sri Lanka.
The wicketkeeper has registered the second-highest individual score for South Africa in World Cup cricket, only behind Gary Kirsten's 188* against UAE in the 1996 World Cup. He now also holds the record for the second-highest individual score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs, behind MS Dhoni's 183*.
Quinton de Kock is currently the top run-scorer not only for South Africa, but in the entire competition, with 431 runs at a strike rate of 117. He has struck 15 sixes and 44 fours.
It is courtesy of de Kock's exploits that South Africa sit comfortably at the 2nd spot in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 points table with 5 wins and one loss from their 6 matches of the round-robin stage.
